Dominus Gladiatus Exhibition Matches Guide
How exhibition matches work in Dominus Gladiatus: Ordinator setup, 20-coin base reward, +3 per arena win, cooldowns and when the low-risk income is worth it.
Exhibition matches are the safe, boring income channel in Dominus Gladiatus. They do not pay like a headline arena purse, but they keep a roster sharp, give a new recruit experience and generate coins while your main fighters recover. The Ordinator runs them; the economics decide whether they are worth the calendar slot.
Quick answer
Hire the Ordinator, schedule exhibitions when your main fighters are resting or a recruit needs ring time, and treat the 20-coin base reward as a top-up. Do not build the Ludus economy around exhibitions; a 20-coin match cannot cover a multi-gladiator daily burn plus healing.

What is an exhibition match?
An exhibition is a fight inside the Ludus, arranged by the Ordinator rather than taken from the arena contract board. It is lower-stakes than a public arena bout, but it still consumes time and can affect the fighter's state.
Patch 6 added the Ordinator as the staff member who manages Exhibition Matches. Patch 7 set the base reward at 20 coins, plus 3 coins for each arena victory.

How do you unlock exhibitions?
The sequence in the build I checked:
- Open the STAFF tab.
- Hire the Ordinator.
- Use the exhibition option to arrange a match.
- Choose the participating gladiators.
- Advance the calendar to resolve the bout.
The Ordinator is a permanent hire; the exhibition itself has a cooldown. Patch 5 changed the cooldown to start from the end of the fight, not from the booking.
If the exhibition option is missing, check that the Ordinator is hired and that the selected gladiators are eligible.
How much do exhibitions pay?
The base is 20 coins. Each arena victory adds 3 coins to the reward, so a roster with four arena wins gets 32 coins per exhibition.
| Arena victories | Exhibition reward |
|---|---|
| 0 | 20 |
| 1 | 23 |
| 2 | 26 |
| 3 | 29 |
| 4 | 32 |
The scaling is linear and modest. The point is not the raw coin; it is the ability to generate income without the fatigue and injury risk of a public purse.
When are exhibitions worth it?
Use them when:
- Your main fighters are resting. The exhibition keeps a secondary fighter busy without risking the carry.
- A new recruit needs experience. Low-stakes reps are safer than a 55-coin arena card.
- You are between contract batches. A small income stream beats idle time.
- You need to keep morale stable. A win is a positive event; a loss is a smaller setback than a public defeat.
Skip them when:
- The daily upkeep is already covered and the calendar is better spent training.
- The participating fighter is injured or at Fatigue 3+.
- The exhibition would delay a full Infirmary stay.
- You are saving the cooldown for a more important week.
Do exhibitions affect Fatigue and injuries?
Exhibitions are fights, so they can affect the fighter's state. They are lower-stakes than arena contracts, but they are not free.
Check the participating fighter's Fatigue before scheduling. A fighter at Fatigue 3 should be in the Quarters, not in an exhibition. A fighter with an untreated injury should be in the Infirmary.
The exact injury chance for exhibitions is not published in the patch notes I checked. Treat it as a real fight with a lower ceiling, not as a training drill.
Why can't a refusing gladiator fight an exhibition?
Patch 5 states that gladiators who refuse to fight cannot participate in exhibitions. That is consistent with the morale system: refusal removes the fighter from combat until morale recovers.
If a fighter is missing from the exhibition selection, check the INFO card for a low-morale trait. Fix morale first, then schedule.
How do exhibitions fit the daily routine?
A workable pattern for a three-gladiator roster:
| Day | Main fighter | Second fighter | Third fighter |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Arena purse | Quarters | Exhibition |
| 2 | Quarters | Arena purse | Training |
| 3 | Training | Training | Exhibition |
| 4 | Arena purse | Quarters | Training |
| 5 | Quarters | Arena purse | Exhibition |
This keeps one fighter earning, one recovering and one in low-risk activity. The exact days depend on Fatigue and injuries; the principle is to avoid stacking two high-risk fights on the same day.
Are exhibitions good for new recruits?
Yes, with limits. A new recruit needs combat experience and skill progress, but a public arena purse can kill them. An exhibition is a safer way to test their class and temperament.
Do not send a 85-Health recruit into an exhibition at Fatigue 2 against a trained opponent. The lower stakes do not make a bad matchup safe.
Do exhibitions count for achievements?
The exhibition system is separate from the arena achievements. The Ordinator is tied to exhibition management, but the 23 achievements I checked focus on arena wins, facilities, staff powers and campaign victories.
If you are chasing a specific achievement, check its condition before assuming an exhibition counts. The achievements guide → lists all 23.
