Dominus Gladiatus Best Gladiators Tier List
Dominus Gladiatus best gladiators tier list: Health, talents, temperament and class value, plus when to buy, keep or sell a recruit from the Slave Market.
Dominus Gladiatus does not have fixed named gladiators. Every recruit is generated with a Base Health, a talent, a temperament, a class and a price. The "best" gladiator is therefore a profile, not a character: high Health, a talent that compounds, a temperament you can manage and a class that answers your bracket.
Quick answer
S-tier recruits have 110+ Base Health plus Fast Learner or Rapid Recovery. A-tier is 100 Health with a useful talent, or 115 Health with a neutral talent. B-tier is 85 Health with a specialist talent such as Charismatic or Harden. Skip Failed talents and low-Health projects unless the price is trivial.

What makes a recruit good?
Five variables decide a recruit's long-term value:
| Variable | Why it matters | Best outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Base Health | Survives bad matchups and injuries | 110-115+ |
| Talent | Compounds over the whole run | Fast Learner, Rapid Recovery |
| Temperament | Changes fight behaviour | Balanced; Hot-Blooded for Scissor |
| Class | Matchup coverage | Fills a gap in your roster |
| Price | Upfront cost plus daily upkeep | Leaves a reserve |
Base Health is the first filter because it cannot be trained back easily. A 115-Health recruit with a neutral talent usually outperforms an 85-Health recruit with a great talent, especially in the first 30 days.
The recruit tier list
| Tier | Profile | Why |
|---|---|---|
| S | 110-115 Health + Fast Learner or Rapid Recovery | High floor plus compounding growth |
| A | 100 Health + useful talent | Solid starter with a path |
| A | 115 Health + neutral talent | Expensive but durable |
| B | 85 Health + Charismatic or Harden | Specialist; needs protection |
| B | 100 Health + Hot-Blooded (Scissor) | Aggression fits the class |
| C | 85 Health + Failed talent | Fixer-upper with a low ceiling |
| C | Any Health + no useful talent at a high price | Upkeep trap |
The tiers are guidelines. A B-tier Harden recruit can be excellent if your arena plan involves Fatigue-heavy schedules; an S-tier Fast Learner with a class you cannot support is still a project.

Which talents are worth paying for?
The build and patch notes show these talent/trait names:
- Fast Learner: faster skill progression. The best long-term talent for a main carry.
- Rapid Recovery: faster recovery from fatigue or injury. Excellent for a workhorse.
- Charismatic: extra coins from arena fights (Patch 3). A money talent, not a combat talent.
- Harden: immunity to fatigue-based arena injuries (Patch 3). A safety talent for high-Fatigue schedules.
- Failed: a negative talent. Treat it as a discount, not a bonus.
- Iron Discipline / Battle Inspiration: high-morale traits, not recruit talents. They appear when morale is high.
A talent that does not match your plan is not a talent. Charismatic on a fighter who never enters the arena is wasted; Harden on a fighter you keep at Fatigue 0-1 is redundant.
How much does Health matter?
Health is the stat that prevents the worst outcomes. The opening market band is 85, 100 and 115 Health for 35, 50 and 65 coins according to Patch 4. The 100-Health recruit is usually the best value because it leaves coins for a building.
At higher levels, Health differences shrink relative to skill ranks and equipment. A 100-Health fighter with Combat 3 and a good shield can beat a 115-Health fighter with no training.
Do not overpay for 5 extra Health. Do pay for a Health floor that survives the bracket you are entering.
How does temperament change the ranking?
Temperament affects how the gladiator approaches a fight. The build showed Balanced and Hot-Blooded.
- Balanced: the safe default. No unusual behaviour to plan around.
- Hot-Blooded: more aggressive damage output, but potentially more exposed. Good on a Scissor, risky on a Murmillo who wants to tank.
Temperament is a tiebreaker, not a reason to buy a low-Health recruit. A Hot-Blooded Scissor with 115 Health is excellent; a Hot-Blooded 85-Health Scissor is a glass cannon that needs a dedicated healer.
How does class fit affect the tier?
A recruit's class is only as good as your roster's gaps.
- If you have no anti-Retiarius answer, a Secutor with Net Breaker potential moves up a tier.
- If your bracket is full of Scissors, a Murmillo shield tank moves up.
- If you already have three Murmillos, a fourth is not S-tier regardless of Health.
The classes guide → maps the matchups; the recruitment guide → covers market timing and price discipline.
When should you buy a recruit?
Buy when:
- The recruit fills a class gap or replaces a dead fighter.
- The price leaves at least 30 coins in reserve.
- You have Quarters and training capacity for one more body.
- The Health floor is at least 100 for a main roster slot.
Do not buy when:
- You are already struggling to pay upkeep.
- The recruit is a duplicate class with no matchup value.
- The talent is Failed and the price is not a bargain.
- You have an injured fighter who needs the Infirmary budget.
When should you sell a gladiator?
Sell when the fighter is:
- A low-Health project with no path to the roster.
- A duplicate class with no matchup role.
- Injured long-term and consuming upkeep.
- Taking training time from a better recruit.
Do not sell your only trained fighter to save a few coins. The replacement cost in training days is usually higher than the upkeep saving.
What is the best opening recruit?
The 100-Health recruit at 50 coins, unless the 115-Health recruit at 65 leaves you with enough reserve for the Quarters. The 85-Health recruit is a trap for a new player: it saves 15 coins but costs far more in recovery and replacement.
If the 100-Health recruit has Fast Learner or Rapid Recovery, take it immediately. If all three have Failed talents, take the highest Health and plan to replace them later.

FAQ
Are there named gladiators in Dominus Gladiatus? No. Recruits are generated with names, stats and traits. The tier list ranks profiles, not fixed characters.
Is 115 Health always better than 100? Not always. The 100-Health recruit plus a building can be better than a 115-Health recruit with no recovery infrastructure.
What is the worst talent? Failed. It is a negative trait; treat the recruit as a discount body, not a long-term investment.
Should I buy a trained gladiator from the market? After Day 20, trained gladiators can appear. They are worth considering if the price is below the training time they save, but check their Fatigue, injuries and morale first.
