Dominus Gladiatus Best Build: Stats & Skills

Dominus Gladiatus best build guide: Health vs damage, skill order for Murmillo, Secutor and Scissor, Veteran bonuses, equipment priorities and team-fight roles.

Last Updated: 2026-11-06

There is no single best build in Dominus Gladiatus because every arena card names a class, a Health total and a crowd mood. There is, however, a best default: enough Health to survive a bad exchange, Combat at the first damage breakpoint, one defensive skill, and a class answer for the matchup you keep losing. Everything else is specialisation.

Quick answer

Build Health first, then Combat rank 1-2, then one defensive skill. Add the class answer (Net Breaker for Secutor, Shield Guard for Murmillo, stun pressure for Scissor) before chasing a third damage skill. At the Veteran choice, take Health on your main carry and Damage on a Scissor-style finisher.

What stats actually matter?

Stat Why it matters Priority
Health Survives burst and bad matchups 1
Attack damage Shortens fights, reduces incoming hits 2
Block chance Prevents damage entirely 3
Block damage / reduction Softens chip damage 4
Fatigue recovery More usable arena days 5
Morale traits Prevents refusal/theft 6

Health is first because the game's worst outcomes are death and long injuries, not slow kills. A fighter with 145 Health and moderate damage can survive a losing matchup; a 90-Health glass cannon cannot.

Damage is second because every fight is a race against the opponent's damage. Combat's +1/+3/+5 breakpoints are the cheapest way to shorten that race.

Block and reduction are third because they only matter after you survive the first exchange. They are excellent on a shield class and mediocre on a low-Health build that dies before blocking.

What is the best skill order?

A universal order that works on all three classes:

  1. Combat rank 1 - first damage breakpoint.
  2. One defensive skill - Shield Guard for Murmillo/Secutor; Iron Body as a fallback.
  3. Combat rank 2 - second damage breakpoint.
  4. The class answer - Net Breaker, Outmaneuver, or the Scissor's stun support.
  5. Last Stand - one-per-fight survival insurance.
  6. A second utility or damage skill - Deadly Strike, Backstab or Iron Body rank 2.

Do not train four skills to rank 1. A rank 2 in the skill that decides your matchup is worth more than four shallow ranks.

The skills tier list → ranks each ability by general value and class fit.

What is the best Murmillo build?

Murmillo is the shield tank. The build leans into block consistency and survival.

Skills: Combat 2, Shield Guard 2, Iron Body 1-2, Last Stand 1, then Combat 3.

Equipment: large shield with the highest block chance you can afford, helmet and legs with damage reduction, weapon damage last.

Veteran choice: Health. The Murmillo wins by outlasting, and the extra Health multiplies every block.

Team role: front-line absorber in 3v3 to 5v5. Put the Murmillo where the opponent's burst is, not where the easy kill is.

What is the best Secutor build?

Secutor is the flexible answer class. The build invests in Shield Guard for defence and Net Breaker for the Retiarius matchup, then adds Outmaneuver or Backstab for pressure.

Skills: Combat 2, Shield Guard 1-2, Net Breaker 1, Outmaneuver 1-2, Backstab 2, Last Stand 1.

Equipment: round shield with block chance, balanced armour, weapon damage at the second breakpoint.

Veteran choice: Health if the Secutor is your main carry; Damage if you already have a dedicated tank.

Team role: the answer piece. Send the Secutor against nets and flankers, not into the enemy tank.

What is the best Scissor build?

Scissor is the aggressive finisher. The build prioritises damage and stun pressure, with just enough defence to survive the first exchange.

Skills: Combat 2, Brutal Kick/Headbutt support, Deadly Strike 1-2, Last Stand 1, Iron Body 1.

Equipment: highest damage weapon you can afford, small shield with block, armour with damage reduction on the chest and legs.

Veteran choice: Damage. The Scissor's job is to end fights before the opponent's defence stabilises.

Team role: focus the low-Health target. Do not send the Scissor into a Murmillo's shield alone.

Should you take Health or Damage at Veteran?

Patch 2 set the rule: seven victories make a Veteran, and the gladiator permanently chooses a Health or Damage bonus.

Take Health when:

  • The fighter is your main carry and cannot be replaced.
  • The fighter is a Murmillo or a team-fight anchor.
  • The roster is entering To-the-Death contracts.

Take Damage when:

  • The fighter is a Scissor or a dedicated finisher.
  • The fighter already has high Health and a defensive skill.
  • You need faster clears to reduce incoming hits.

Do not take Damage on a 90-Health fighter just because the number looks impressive. A dead finisher deals zero damage.

How should you gear a build?

Gear follows the build, not the other way around.

  • Weapon: damage first for Scissor and Secutor; a shield class can accept a lower-damage weapon if the shield is strong.
  • Off-hand/shield: block chance is the premium stat. A 40% block weapon or shield is worth more than a few points of damage.
  • Helmet and legs: damage reduction and armour. Patch 6 changed Defense to increase the Armor provided by each piece.
  • Armband and pants: fill the gaps; do not overpay for marginal upgrades.
  • Level requirement: a high-tier item your fighter cannot equip is a wasted purchase.

The build I checked showed a Wooden Club with a 40% chance to block 2 damage and Gold Trim Wraps with a 25% chance to block 1. Those early items illustrate the priority: reliable block beats a tiny damage increase.

How do team-fight builds differ?

In 1v1, a single carry can win with raw stats. In 3v3 to 5v5, the opposing team can focus one fighter, so durability and role coverage matter more.

Team-fight adjustments:

  • Give the front-line fighter one extra defensive rank before a second damage rank.
  • Keep one answer piece (Secutor with Net Breaker) even if it is not the highest damage.
  • Do not field two identical Scissors; they compete for the same finish and expose each other.
  • Build one fighter with high morale traits for long contract batches.

The endgame contracts guide → covers 1v1 to 5v5 roster planning.

What is the best build for a new player?

Murmillo with Combat 2, Shield Guard 2, Iron Body 1 and Last Stand 1. Health-first gear, a large shield with block chance, and the Veteran bonus in Health.

It is not the highest-damage build. It is the build that survives long enough to teach you the fatigue, injury and morale loops without losing the roster.

Do not copy a build before you know the matchup. A build is an answer to a card; if the card changes, the correct stat priority changes with it.

FAQ

Is Health really better than damage? For a main carry, yes. Health prevents the outcomes that end runs. Damage is better on a replaceable finisher.

Can I respec skills? The build I checked does not expose a skill respec on the INFO card. Plan the order and use the training calendar deliberately.

What is the best weapon? The highest damage weapon your fighter can equip without sacrificing block or armour. A shield class should not trade the shield for raw damage.

Do builds change after the tournament? Yes. Team contracts reward durability and role coverage more than a solo carry build.
